The Lions Association for Sight & Hearing of Maryland held its semi-annual collection of eyeglasses, hearing aids and cellphones on April 11th. District 22-A Lions Clubs brought donations from their servicing area to the drop-off point in Dundalk. 17,500 eyeglasses were collected along with 67 sets of hearing aids and 200 cell phones.
- The eyeglasses will be shipped to a company that will refurbish and ship them to those in need in South America and Africa.
- The hearing aids will go to the Towson University Speech, Language and Hearing Center to be refurbished under contract and then issued to clients who could otherwise not afford them.
- The cellphones will go to a veterans organization that will send them to be recycled for cash. The cash is then used to purchase phone cards to issue to troops overseas to use to call home.
This is another example of what members of Lions Clubs International do every day to serve their communities!
